The Psychology of climate change
In this short talk (45 minutes plus discussion), I will explain my perspective on how to use psychological science to be more effective in persuading others to work toward solving the climate change problem. I focus on how to overcome denial of climate change, in particular using framing. I will then explain some of the most important obstacles to pro-environmental behavior, such as the attitude-behavior gap, habits, norms, identity, and context. Here I focus in particular on how to find solutions to these problems. I end by explaining my take on how to achieve meaning and live a happy life without excessive consumerism.
The talk is given by Joris Lammers.
